Casemate W: the Waterlines
The Waterlines were designed to protect the Netherlands against invading enemies. By breaking through the dikes and opening the locks, large sections of land were put under 15 inches of water. Very ingenious, because the enemy forces could not see where they were walking and the water was so shallow that their boats ran aground. When German aircraft flew over the Waterlines in 1940, it was obvious that this defence line was outdated. In Casemate W you can see how the waterlines worked.
